Amanda Knox Documentary - Sex, Lies and the Murder of Meredith Kercher (2008)
This episode of the British TV series "Cutting Edge" examined the murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. The episode aired April 17, 2008. It has also been previously posted on YouTube under the title "The Story of Amanda Knox." Meredith was murdered by Rudy Guede in November 2007. Italian police falsely implicated Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito, and Patrick Lumumba in the murder. Mr. Lumumba was released when he was proven to have an alibi. Rudy Guede was convicted in a fast-track trial and sentenced to thirty years in prison, which was reduced to sixteen years on appeal. Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were convicted, then acquitted in a second trial, and are currently standing trial for the third time.- published: 26 Oct 2013

Amanda Knox convicted again of Meredith Kercher's murder
Amanda Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty for the second time of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher, in a retrial that reversed an earlier appeal judgment An appeals court in Florence on Thursday upheld the guilty verdict against US student Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito for the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. Knox was sentenced to 28 and a half years in prison, raising the spectre of a long legal battle over her extradition. After nearly 12 hours of deliberations, the court reinstated the guilty verdict first handed down against Knox and Sollecito in 2009. Lawyers for Knox and Sollecito vowed to appeal to Italy's highest court, a process that will take at least another year, dragging out a legal saga that has divided court-watchers in three nations. In a statement from Seattle, where she had awaited the verdict, Knox said she was "frightened and saddened" by the decision, which she said was unjust and the result of an overzealous prosecution and narrow-minded investigation. The verdict had been overturned in 2011 and the pair were freed from prison, but Italy's supreme court vacated that decision and sent the case back for a third trial in Florence. Sollecito, whose lawyers said they would appeal the verdict, was sentenced to 25 years. While Sollecito was in court on Thursday morning, he didn't return for the verdict, and 26-year-old Knox was at home in Seattle awaiting the decision with, in her own words, "my heart in my throat." Sollecito's lawyers said they were stunned and would take their appeal to Italy's top court. Presiding Judge Alessando Nencini ordered the 29-year-old Sollecito's passport revoked but made no requests for Knox's movements to be limited, saying she was "justifiably abroad." Experts have said it's unlikely that Italy would request Knox's extradition before the verdict is final. If the conviction is upheld on a final appeal, a lengthy extradition process would likely ensue. Knox's defence team gave its last round of rebuttals earlier Thursday, ending four months of arguments in the third trial for Kercher's murder in the Italian university town of Perugia. Kercher's brother and sister were in the courtroom for the verdict, and said the outcome was the best they could have hoped for. Sign up for a free trial of News Direct's animated news graphics at http://newsdirect.nma.com.tw/Reuters.aspx The evidence initially used to convict American student Amanda Knox of murder was highly reliant on DNA material. Knox's acquittal has been overturned by Italy's highest court of appeal. Knox was originally convicted of murdering her British housemate Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. The initial guilty verdict found Knox and two other men, her boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito and Rudy Guede, had murdered Kercher. After appealing, Knox was acquitted after spending four years in jail. In March 2013, Italy's Court of Cassation overturned Knox's acquittal, paving the way for a retrial of the case.- published: 30 Apr 2013

Amanda Knox guilty RETRIAL FINDS HER GUILTY
Amanda Knox Raffaele Sollecito. guilty RETRIAL FINDS HER GUILTY of Meredith Kercher an sentenced to 28 years 6months inprisonment. Raffaele Sollecito. Court has upheld original verdict. A court in Italy has reinstated the guilty verdicts against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito for mu rderf UK student Meredith Kercher in 2007. American Knox and her Italian ex-boyfriend Sollecito - who had pleaded not guilty - now face long jail sentences. The latest verdict overturns the pair's successful 2011 appeal, which freed them after four years in jail. Amanda Knox's Full Statement on Guilty Verdict Jan. 30, 2014 ABC News January 30, 2014 First and foremost it must be recognized that there is no consolation for the Kercher family. Their grief over Meredith's terrible murder will follow them forever. They deserve respect and support. I am frightened and saddened by this unjust verdict. Having been found innocent before, I expected better from the Italian justice system. The evidence and accusatory theory do not justify a verdict of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Rather, nothing has changed. There has always been a marked lack of evidence. My family and I have suffered greatly from this wrongful persecution. This has gotten out of hand. Most troubling is that it was entirely preventable. I beseech those with the knowledge and authority to address and remediate the problems that worked to pervert the course of justice and waste the valuable resources of the system: overzealous and intransigent prosecution, prejudiced and narrow-minded investigation, unwillingness to admit mistake, reliance on unreliable testimony and evidence, character assassination, inconsistent and unfounded accusatory theory, and counterproductive and coercive interrogation techniques that produce false confessions and inaccurate statements. Clearly a wrongful conviction is horrific for the wrongfully accused, but it is also terribly bad for the victim, their surviving family, and society. Ms Kercher was sta bbed to de ath in the flat she shared in Perugia with Knox. Thursday's fresh appeal hearing in Florence was ordered by Italy's highest court, the supreme court in Rome. It had found that the 2011 appeal - which acquitted the pair - was flawed. Ms Knox, who along with Mr Sollecito had denied all the charges, did not return to Italy for the case. Ms Kercher's brother Lyle and sister Stephanie were present when the verdict was read out. The court in Florence heard from Ms Knox's defence team in the morning before the two judges and eight jurors retired to deliberate on a verdict. Summing up, Ms Knox's lawyer, Carlo Dalla Vedova, told the court her innocence was "rock-solid and it allows us to await the verdict with serenity". The supreme court overturned their acquittals last March after an appeal by prosecutors, who argued that important DNA evidence had been disregarded. Prosecutors had asked for 26-year prison terms for the pair on the charge. 'DNA doubts' Ms Kercher, from Coulsdon in south London and 21 at the time, was found with her throat cut in a flat she shared with Ms Knox in the college city of Perugia, in the central region of Umbria. Amanda Knox retrial verdict: Amanda Marie Knox is an American woman who, in 2009, was convicted of the mu rder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Umbria, Italy.
